Description - Inn

Hearthstone Lodge is one of America's finest country inns. The lodge sits on a wooded 60 acre estate, looking straight down on the Clearwater River which is only 300 feet away. Hearthstone is located just outside the historic town of Kamiah, Idaho, in America's largest remaining wilderness (in the lower 48 states). Guests at this handsome, comfortable country inn will find themselves surrounded by majestic views of mountain forests, valley meadows, scenic rivers, and abundant flora and wildlife. The nearby pioneer town of Kamiah has many historic, and geologic visitor sites such as the 1850 Northwest Passage Wagon Road, the Lewis and Clark Trail and the Nez Perce Historical Park. Whether you're here to enjoy our warm hospitality and the serenity of the lodge, or to get out and explore what North Central Idaho has to offer, you'll find plenty of reasons to extend your stay.

High ceilings and architectural details makes the stalwart Hearthstone Lodge look historic, but it was lovingly built at the turn of the latest century, in 2000. The innkeepers, Harty and Marjorie, applied 27 years of luxury lodging experience in creating the fabulous, spacious, and artistically appointed rooms in the five thousand square foot main lodge building. (More buildings and accommodations are planned for the future.) Each accommodation is a work of art. Hand picked estate furnishings, prints, imported porcelains, and fine linens grace each guest room. World class amenities such as fireplaces, private jacuzzis, balconies, cathedral ceilings, canopied king size beds ensure that guests enjoy a luxurious and relaxing stay.

An all-season lodge, the elegance is enhanced when it snows. The Valley enjoys uncommonly mild weather, even in winter. But a touch of snow makes it a veritable winter wonderland. A cozy fire and a hot beverage make perfect companions for a book from our private guest library. For the more daring, a hike around the estate, perhaps following one of the many deer trails, is a popular endeavor.

Overlooking the peaceful Clearwater River and the historic Lewis and Clark Trail, the elegant and romantic Hearthstone Lodge is the original lodge at river's edge, nestled among the pines on 60 acres. Lewis and Clark called this area "Paradise Valley."

Quiet and romantic, restful and serene, Hearthstone Lodge is a bed & breakfast country inn equipped with world class amenities including Jacuzzi tubs for two, forest and river view balconies, cathedral ceilings, canopied custom beds with antique headboards, wood burning fireplaces, embroidered robes, and delicious breakfasts in our in-town bakery to start your day. No details have been overlooked.

Neighborhood

Lewis and Clark Expedition Historical Sites - In 1803, one of America's greatest adventures began when President Thomas Jefferson won approval from Congress to fund an exploration of a river route to the far west. Jefferson selected 28 year old Army captain Meriwether Lewis as the leader for the expedition. Lewis chose an army comrade, William Clark to be his co-leader. During the winter of 1803-04, Lewis and Clark assembled the rest of their team and gathered supplies. On May 14th, 1804, Lewis and Clark began their historic journey west. As the Bicentennial of this historic event approaches, the exploits of Lewis and Clark and the lands they explored are once again in the public's interest.

During their return to the east, Lewis and Clark explored the Clearwater River Valley, and stayed in Kamiah for a month during the winter of 1806, waiting for the snow to melt enough so that they could continue. (Long Camp is only one mile from the lodge.) The areas around Kamiah are some of the best preserved areas of the Lewis and Clark Trail. Following are a few web sites that will help you learn more about the Lewis and Clark Trail.
