Overview

Hedonisia Hawaii is a budget eco-hostel located deep in the heart of the Big Island in East Hawaii. Many beautiful attractions are nearby such as the major active volcano of the world, Kilauea Volcano. Also the Volcano heated Kapoho Warm Ponds where you can swim in thermal heated ocean water.

Hedonisia Hawaii is set on 3.72 acres of wild lush jungle. The property even has a "mini" volcanic crater 2 acres in size and around 75' deep! So there is much to explore before you even leave the property!

We offer a number of types of accommodations around the property. For those who wish to enjoy a jungle vacation with all amenities like a full kitchen, hot showers and flush toilets we offer a studio or 1-bedroom cottage.

For those who prefer to enjoy a more rustic and natural vacation we offer various shelters where you can be more in the nature and yet have access to electricity, Internet and DVDs if you so desire!

Location & Transportation

We are located in the lush rainforest region of Puna in Eastern region of "Big Island", Hawaii. All of Hawaii was created by volcanic eruptions but here in Eastern Hawaii the volcanoes are still active and creating more land every day.

Signs of past and present volcanic activity are all around the island. In fact at Hedonisia Hawaii we even have our own volcanic crater from an eruption of around 200 years ago.

Now filled with lush jungle this crater has a rugged path into it and around it for those who wish to explore!

Once you arrive and get your car, take a deep breath- you made it! Welcome to Hawaii!
It usually takes about 45 minutes to get to Hedonisia from Hilo Airport. Take the road out of the Airport to the first traffic light and make a left. This is Kanoelehua Street or Hwy 11. This will take you out of town past the Wal-Mart, several grocers and the shopping mall. We point this out because Hilo is generally a cheaper stop for groceries and supplies than Pahoa. We suggest that stock up on food supplies in Hilo and be sure to pick out some new and exotic Hawaiian fruits for the drive!

Continue along for about 8 miles to where Highway 11 forks at Kea'au (stoplight.) Stay to the left and follow the signs for Pahoa. Pahoa town is a little loop. Even if you don't visit it on the way in, you won't want to miss the variety of restaurants and quirky shops while you are in the area. At the second Pahoa intersection (the stoplight) take a left. This street is called the Pahoa/Kapoho Road. It will fork just past Lava Tree State Park, stay to the right; this is now Pohoiki Road.

Hinalo Street is the second street you will come to; turn right on it. We are the fifth property on the left; a yellow building. Our address is 13-657 Hinalo Road and our street number is on the red mailbox in front of our property. It is approximately is 4 miles from the stoplight in Pahoa to our driveway.

Welcome to Hedonisia Hawaii!! Relax and let us show you some Aloha Spirit!
TransportationWe recommend that guests rent a car. All the major car rental companies are located right at Hilo Airport. For European and Japanese visitors we suggest that you get an International Driver's License so that you can rent a car more easily.

Amenities & Attractions

Hedonisia's charm begins with the lush tropical atmosphere and the small number of lodgings - keeping it friendly, spacious, beautiful and safe. Each accomodation has its own unique beauty, incorporating the natural surroundings and recycled materials. The shared space includes a barn with computers, dvds, a fully equipped outdoor kitchen, and outdoor hangout area. You will also find a great place to build a bonfire if you wander down the path further!

Guest Room Amenities

This is not a "normal" hostel! We do not pack people in rooms. Most of our lodgings are "jungle style", you can rest assured that none of your sheets will match but they will be clean.

Unlike other hostels we decided to scrap the idea of dormitory beds located right next to each other. Instead we offer Indoor Camping in our barn where we have placed comfortable tents and bedding for guests. This has proven to be quite popular as the tents provide more security and privacy than a traditional dormitory bed!

For those who wish to enjoy hotel privacy on a hostel budget there are also a number of other basic shelters in beautiful parts of the property!

Each lodging is unique from the "Guava Hut" which is mostly built out of guava wood to Ocean View which was built with recycled and salvaged materials.

This is the rainforest so despite our best efforts there will often be a slightly damp smell to almost everything! We would have to use bleach all the time to kill the damp and that would not be ecofriendly!
